The Three Awesome Pigs

Just a few pages of a children's book I've been working on. The concept is a modernized Three Little Pigs story with a lot of epic-ness involved. The Title Page was created to establish the general style and color scheme.
A character establishing shot to show the main characters, as well as the interior of the stump house. This page shows Momma Pig explaining to the Three Awesome Pigs the importance of growing up and making it on their own.

An example page which shows the Big Rad Wolf competing against one of the Three Awesome Pigs. Throughout the story the Big Rad Wolf has to "battle" the Three Awesome Pigs in challenges of their specialty.

BREAKFAST AT THE MANCHESTER MORGUE

My idea was to create an interior scene that was kind of funky and original. I decided to build this morgue scene which was inspired by an Impetigo song called, "Breakfast at the Manchester Morgue". Definitely worth a listening to. I wanted to keeps things looking a bit retro with the colors and the tacky wallpaper, as well as an ambient yellow tint to the scene.

You can see from the sketch that I pretty much followed my original concept. Even the arrangement of eggs, toast, and bacon is the same.

BUTTERSLUG

Concept was to create a curve-based object and use sub-devision modeling to create it. The inspiration came from the inner beauty storys of, "ugly duckling to swan" or "caterpillar to butterfly". Instead of the ugly slug turning into a beautiful butterfly, it just turns into an ugly slug with wings.

The sketching was probably the easiest part of the whole thing. i decided to not use butterfly wings and go with something a little more insecticide like with the dradonfly wings.

URBAN LOG

The idea was to create something with a lot of surface editing so what better surface than wood. And if your going to be using a wood surface, what better piece of wood than LOG! Obviously my reference material was the mock toy made famous by Ren & Stimpy, but with a contemporary flair. Renders done in Lightwave 3D and the composition was done in Photoshop.

Not much sketching was done for this one. I instantly knew what LOG would look like as well as what I wanted the shades to look like. I originally planned to use this retro-logo, but later ditched it to make things modern.

PIZZA COLA

My first attempt at Lightwave 3D Modeler. Requirement was to a have a glass bottle of anything so of course I tried to make things a little interesting with a bit of humor. I knew right from the beginning that I didn't want to do something too cheesy so I set out to make a beverage from one of the greatest foods known to man. Four multiple renders done in Lightwave with the final composition done in Photoshop.

Heres the initial sketches done to convey what the bottle might look like, as well as the setting and logo pieces on the bottle.

Third entree of the "Restful Pine Sisters". This one representing a junkie who will do anything for her next fix. Having the lower-half of her body infected, agile spider-like stilts rapidly move to her victims for her consumption.

The second character of the "Restful Pine Sisters". A little old-lady with a massive hypodermic toothed parasite sprouting out of her back. With long rigid tentacles it wraps up it's prey for easier access use of its hollowed tooth.

I'm working on a series of character designs called the "Restful Pine Sisters'. Three different types of women representing common hospital patients. The scenario is that some bizarre vegetation-based mutation infects these women making them there conscious-less host.

The first of the "sisters" is a familiar face. An obese woman perched upon two mammoth arms that are used to carry her weight. These arms also grab victims to be fed into her gapping mouth of a stomach.

This is a small 5" x 7" mixed-media illustration I made for my sister's birthday. (HAPPY B-DAY LIL SIS!!) Digitally painted clown and moons, cut out and laid on corrugated cardboard, then colored with prisma pencils. I use to do a lot of mixed-media illustrations with cardboard, but I laid off it for a few years due to me trying to be more "digital". I really liked how this turned out so I think corrugated cardboard might just slip it's way back into more of my work. Stay tuned...

This is the cover to Dwayne McDuffie's "Deathlok: Show and Tell". This was an assignment for my Sequential Art class that required me to illustrate a cover and 3 pages to a class comic script. I really wish I would have had the time to color the pages as well as the cover, but I'm still happy with the way it turned out. Hope you enjoy it!

The first Deathlok page (sixth in the comic) that I illustrated. It pretty much establishes the main characters of Deathlok, Nick, and Brad. Brad was a fun character to draw because he's intended to be a fat and obnoxious jerk so I didn't have to worry about making him pretty or nice looking.

The finale page to the comic. The dialog between Deathlok and computer was one of my favorite parts to this page. This page also features 2 characters which actually became some of the classes favorite characters. The girls in panel 3 is actually a key character to the first half of the story, but is hardly mentioned in the later half.

Here is the "preliminary" sketch for the character Deathlok for the comic "Deathlok: Show and Tell" written by Dwayne McDuffie. In the final version of Deathlok I changed a few things like ditched the eyeball, made the cyborg eyes a little more intense, as well as a few more miniscule things.

The Nail-Gun Insect

This was an insect that hardly makes an appearance in the animation. It's an insect with a nail-gun proboscis. The proboscis isn't for eating flowers though, but instead is intended for destroying tanks. Go figure...
